MY HIGH SCHOOL YEARS

This page will inform you about my high school years in my native hometown of Dorchester County, South Carolina.

In August of 2002, I began my high school adventure at Woodland High School. It is the only high school in Dorchester School District 4. It was created in 1999.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

In order to graduate with a South Carolina High School Diploma, students must earn 24 required units of credit as outlined below.

Like many high schools throughout South Carolina, Woodland High School has three programs of study for students: the college preparatory program, the tech-prep program, and the honors program depending on whether the student's goal is to enter the workforce, the armed services, a two-year degree at a community college, or a four-year degree at a university.

SECOND PLACE IN THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ESSAY CONTEST

During my sophomore year of high school, I won second place in the Americans with Disabilities Essay Contest. My English teacher encouraged me to apply for the contest based on my excellent writing skills in class, but I never thought that I would be selected as a winner.

This picture was taken during Course Power week on January 28, 2015. The day I found out that I was accepted into the Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Science Honor Society. Having never been a part of an national academic organization before, I take this honor very seriously.

This is a picture of me stressed out writing my senior research paper for graduation. The stress was very much real. Collecting and organizing data from various online databases such as the Human Development Index of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Bank, and the Corruptions Perceptions Index of Transparency International.

This is a picture of me standing outside of the library of Benedict College during the summer of 2015. I was working as an AmeriCorps VISTA summer associate with the English Language Arts camp on the campus of Benedict College along with another AmeriCorps VISTA.
